Wireless Adhoc Networks 8 subject of final year of computer engineering in Mumbai University. Prerequisite for studying this subject are Computer Network, Wireless Networking.
A wireless ad hoc network or Mobile ad hoc network is a decentralized type of wireless network. The network is ad hoc because it does not rely on a pre-existing infrastructure, such as routers in wired networks or access points in managed (infrastructure) wireless networks. Instead, each node participates in routing by forwarding data for other nodes, so the determination of which nodes forward data is made dynamically on the basis of network connectivity and the routing algorithm in use. In the Windows operating system, ad hoc is a communication mode (setting) that allows computers to directly communicate with each other without a router. Wireless mobile ad hoc networks are self-configuring, dynamic networks in which nodes are free to move. Such wireless networks lack the complexities of infrastructure setup and administration, enabling devices to create and join networks “on the fly” .A true MANET by definition requires multicast routing, not just unicast or broadcast.
Objectives of Adhoc Wireless Networks subjects are as to identify the major issues associated with ad-hoc networks. To identify the requirements for protocols for wireless ad-hoc networks as compared to the protocols existing for wired network. To explore current ad-hoc technologies by researching key areas such as algorithms, protocols, hardware, and applications. To provide hands-on experience through real-world programming projects. To provide advanced in depth networking materials to graduate students in networking research. Outcomes of Adhoc Wireless Networks subjects are as follows: On successful completion of course learner will be able to identify the characteristics and features of Adhoc Networks. Understand the concepts & be able to design MAC protocols for Ad Hoc networks. Implement protocols Carry out simulation of routing protocols of Adhoc Networks. Interpret the flow control in transport layer of Ad Hoc Networks. Analyze security principles for routing of Ad Hoc Networks. Utilize the concepts of Adhoc Networks in VANETs.
